SEOUL—The head of South Korea’s opposition party was stabbed in the neck on Tuesday, jolting the country as political tensions have risen sharply and prompting calls for greater security for elected officials.
Lee Jae-myung, the 59-year-old leader of South Korea’s Democratic Party, underwent emergency vascular surgery for a small laceration to the left side of his neck, officials said. He sustained an injury to his jugular vein, though is expected to survive.
