MLB Opening Day: Boston Red Sox against Seattle Mariners

BOSTON (WWLP) – It’s opening day in Major League Baseball. The Red Sox will start their season in Seattle against the Mariners.

Right-hander Brayan Bello will get the start for opening day after the team’s top acquisition Lucas Giolito had to undergo Tommy John surgery. This will be the first season for new pitching coach Andrew Bailey. The game starts at 10:10 p.m.

The Red Sox struggled last year finishing six games under .500 at 78-84 and in last place in the AL East. Many fans of the ball club have been disappointed over the off season with the team deciding to not make any big moves, especially at a time when they’re in a very competitive division.

22News spoke to local fans about how they feel before the season begins. Louis Rivera of Springfield said, “I hope they do better than last year and I hope they sign somebody because they didn’t sign anybody this year. I wanna see how they do.”

The home opener for the Red Sox will be April 9th against the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.
